
In a significant step forward in the expansion of libraries, the People’s Mission was successful in setting up more than a 100 libraries within a limited time period.
Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the 114 libraries at a function help at Kannur.
Eminent writers T Padmanabhan and M Mukundan were present at the function. Local Self Governance and Excise Minister MV Govindan, and T Padmanabhan also serve as the patrons of the coordinating committee for the initiative.
According to Dr.V.Sivadasan, Network is a people’s initiative towards the creation of a strong network of public spaces which are uniting and empowering.
“Though we have a strong library movement in the district, statistics from some backward regions were not so promising. Therefore, a people’s initiative was set up to overcome the hurdle, forming organizing committees at the grass-root level. Local Self Governing bodies, District Library Council, cooperative institutions, government bodies, noted writers, social-cultural activists and common people are to be part of the grand initiative”, he said. Many writers and public figures, including M Mukundan, T Padmanabhan, Prof. B Muhammad Ahammad, and MV Jayarajan, donated their book collection to the advent. Ramachandran Kadannapally M.L.A, S Chandrashekhar IAS, Prof Gopinath Ravindran, T.K Govindan Master, Mukundan Madathil, P.K Vijayan, Sreedharan Kaithapram, Dr M Surjith, Adv Binoy Kuryan also were present in the event.
